Biography

I was born and raised 50km outside of Thunder Bay, Ontario and currently reside in Fort Frances, Ontario, along with my wife Nicki, and our three children: Brayden, Gabrielle, and Logan. I'm a professional engineer and work as a manager for a large utility company. I graduated from Lakehead University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and am a Certified Personal Trainer as well.

Early On

Over the years I've been active in many sports including: Football; Rugby; Wrestling; Boxing; Martial Arts; Baseball; Power Lifting, Bodybuilding; and of course Strongman. Growing up, I was always a good athlete. However, when I started weight lifting, it just felt natural. This is probably because I did a lot of labour and farm work as a kid. I first began strength training at 12, but didn't begin serious weight lifting until I turned 16. Over the first four months of working out I put on 40 lbs. of quality muscle before the high school football season began that year, and easily became the strongest kid in my school.

For the next few years I was constantly in the gym building strength and improving my physique. Early on, I was really into bodybuilding and wanted to look like the pros. After a few years of training, I decided to take the next step and compete on stage. I've competed in five bodybuilding competitions in Ontario between 2002 and 2004.

Late in 2006, I was bit by the power lifting bug. I attended the Ontario championships and based on what I saw, I knew that I could do well in this sport. I entered my first competition on an whim and was an inch away from locking out first place (with, what was at that time, the biggest deadlift of my life!). I continued to compete in powerlifting through 2007 and 2008 where I won gold and bronze medals at the Ontario Championships, won my class at the USDFPA Nationals and qualified for the 2007 WNPF World Championships. I also did the IPF Canadian Championships in 2008 despite a back injury and ended up 8th in Canada.

Strongman

After watching the 2006 World’s Strongest Man competition on TV, I was convinced that I could do well in Strongman and decided to pursue my first competition. I entered the 2007 Ontario’s Strongest Man as an unknown, without training any of the events, and finished 9th overall (out of 23). The next competition I did I placed 1st out of 20 guys…I knew then that I had a good future ahead of me in this sport. Since my first year, I have made the podium for the Ontario’s Strongest Man, Canada’s Strongest Man (under 105kg), and won the Animal Strongman Series in 2008. In 2009, I competed in nationally televised events at the Canada’s Strongest Man and North America’s Strongest Man competitions…definitely a dream come true.

My goals in life are to be a good father and husband while training hard enough that I can one day compete for the World’s Strongest Man title. Keep visiting my site to see how I progress. To help me achieve my goals, you can become a SPONSOR of my journey. To find out how, please contact me.
