COMMON STRONGMAN EVENTS

1. stone lifting

Lift smooth concrete stones over a bar for maximum repetitions, or lift a series of stones to platforms, or lift field stones to platforms. This event tests the leg, low/mid back strength and speed.

2. OVERHEAD LIFT

Lifting heavy objects for maximum weight or repetitions. Tests shoulder and triceps strength as the athlete lifts the object from the ground and holds it locked out over head. Implements can include: wood or steel logs, axel or thick bar, yoke, stones, circus dumbbell, Viking press, steel blocks, etc.

3. medley

A grouping of two or three different events into one for time, tests speed, endurance and overall ability. An example could be: tire flip x 3, log press x 1, chain drag x 50ft.

4. drag

Dragging a heavy object for a set distance. Tests leg, back and hand strength and overall endurance. Can be an object on a sled (ex: motorcycle) a truck, or a large chain.

5. yoke

Carrying a heavy bar with weights on each end, can be for best time for a certain distance or for maximum weight. This event tests leg and back strength and stability.

6. object loading

Tests leg, back, and hand strength as well as endurance. Objects can include: barrels, stones, train wheels, heavy bag, etc.

7. hercules hold

Athlete holds a fixed object which pulls on each arm. Tests grip strength, shoulders and back endurance and mental tenacity.

8. Object carry

Athletes pick up a heavy object and carry it for a maximum distance or for best time over a certain distance. Tests the back strength, endurance and ability to run with heavy weight. Objects can include: train wheels, large stones, sandbag, Hussafelt stone, etc.

9. truck pull

Athlete will be sitting down or harnessed to the truck and will pull the truck for a set distance, a rope will normally be provided. Tests the athlete’s stamina, speed and leg strength. Objects can include: fire trucks, pick-up trucks, dump trucks, planes, etc.

10. tire flip

Athletes will flip a tire over a set distance for best time. Tests back, leg and grip strength as well as overall endurance.

11. farmer's walk

Mimicking a farmer carrying heavy pails in the field, athletes will pick up a weight in each hand and carry it for a set distance. Tests the leg, back and grip strength. The size of the handles can change to make it harder to grip the weight.

Athletes flip over large pipes in a series as fast as they can. Tests leg, back and shoulder strength as well as endurance.

13. power stairs

Athletes lift heavy objects up a set of stairs for the fastest time. It can be one object or multiple heavy objects. This event tests the leg, back, grip and overall endurance of the athletes.

14. frame carry

Similar to the Farmer’s Walk, athletes will pick up a heavy frame and carry it for a set distance. Tests the leg, back, grip strength, and the athlete’s ability to run with the weight.

15. deadlift event

Athletes lift a heavy weight off of the ground to waist level. Tests the legs, back and grip. Athletes may lift: a bar, a car or truck, heavy rocks attached to a bar, etc.

16. wheelbarrow carry

Wheelbarrow carry- the athlete will pick up a wheelbarrow loaded with several thousand pounds and will carry it for a set distance. The event can be done for best time or for maximum weight. It tests the athlete’s leg, back and grip strength.
